Department of Arctic and Marine Biology
The Department of Arctic and Marine Biology has a strong research focus on Northern latitiudes, meeting present and future challenges with basic research and also applied research directed towards industry and management. The research is performed by 40 permanent scientific employees, 33 project employees and 29 PhD students. Bachelor and Master students partake in all areas of research.
Research Groups: Arctic animal physiology, Arctic marine systemecology, Freshwater ecology, Fish biology and population genetics, Marine plankton group, Molecular Environments, Northern popualtions and ecosystems
The Biology study program is founded on examples from Northern latitudes and courses are based on different subject approaches: cellular- and molecular biology, evolutionary biology, physiology and ecology. Practical learning, in the form of field courses, scientific cruises and laboratory work is an important component of the biology study program at UiT, in developing both professional and social skills.
