The Department of Clinical Medicine (abbreviation in Norwegian: IKM) aims to be a leading institution for research and education within the medical disciplines the department covers.
The department's two main areas are research and teaching, mainly focusing on the students of the school of medicine, as well as on the faculty´s PhD program. IKM's research is angled towards translational research with clinical research as the basis. Continuing education of doctors, including specialist training, is a task in which IKM's staff participates.
IKM is organized in 16 research groups, including one located at Nordland Hospital, and 23 specialist units that are incorporated in the clinics at UNN, and a separate institute administration.
The Institute is located in several buildings at the University of Tromsø University of Tromsø and University Hospital of North Norway, UNN.
