Studies at the Faculty of Law

The Faculty offer a five-year Master's Degree Programme in Law (in Norwegian only), several courses for international students, and a master program - the Master of Laws in Law of the Sea.

The Master's degree qualifies for employment as a lawyer in public and private sectors.

The law education is based on Norwegian law and will generally contain moderate elements of comparative or international (public or private) law. Normally, the education will not in itself provide qualification for international activities. For this reason, The Faculty of Law encourages students to take parts of their studies abroad.

The total duration of the Law Program is 5 years of full-time studies, inducing the half f year compulsory introductory course in the history of philosophy, theory of science, and legal history (Examen Philosophicum and Examen Facultatum). The Program also includes a legal practice period with a written report and Master's Thesis.

The Master in Law program has five separate units with examination in each part. A successful examination pass in one unit is a prerequisite for admission to the following part the law program.
