Course content

Focus in 2012: "Planning with Difference"

In this course phd students within the field of planning and cultural studies is invited to reflect upon the relation between "planning" and "culture". Since there are multiple understandings of these concepts the course will try to throw light on some of the challenges in these relation. Here we use planning and culture as in the meaning of the "cultural term" or as an analytical approach. Emerging immigration, globalisation and the shift to a post-industrial economy together with a more culturally inspired theoretical reasoning are some of the driving forces in this turn. Such an understanding also has impact on the concept of planning. The courses will reveal different aspects of the planning-culture relationships in today¿s complex societies, for example multiculturalism and diversity, communication challenges between the different levels of planning, different cultures of planning, knowledge systems in relation to planning, the relevance and challenges of planning in the public and private cultural sector etc.

The course is arranged in colloboration with FUS (Forum for Utdanning i Samfunnsplanlegging). Information and registration form at the course webpage.
