Management and Administration
The University of Tromsø is organised in accordance with the rules laid down in the Norwegian Higher Education Act. It is owned by the state and receives its funding directly through the state budget via the Ministry of Education and Research.
University Management
The university’s highest body is the University Board . The board consists of the rector and ten members made up as follows: three representatives for scientific staff, one representative for technical/administrative personnel, two student representatives and four external representatives.
The rector is the university’s highest elected representative. The rector is elected for three years, with the possibility of re-election for one further period. The rector heads the university’s administration. The university director is the highest manager of the university's joint administration, within the framework determined by the university board.
The Central Administration
The Central Administration is the main service center of the University of Tromsø. It provides services to students and staff as well as the public, external partners, media and guests. The University Director is the highest manager of the university's joint administration, within the framework determined by the university board.
