Recommended prerequisites

BIO-2514 Marine ecology, BIO-2512 Project Thesis in Aquatic Ecology, BIO-3501 Physical - biological interactions, BIO-3504 Production and Growth in Polar Areas
Objective of the course

Objective of the course

The course deals with important basic (classical) and advanced aspects of high latitude phytoplankton, i.e. the species of northern microalgae communities and characteristics of the environment they thrive in. Included is a survey of the hydrophysical and phytoplankton literature of the Norwegian Coast northwards from the Arctic Circle. Builds on BIO-8508.
