Faculty of Health Sciences

This is where education, research and dissemination takes place within the fields of psychology, biology, community medicine, clinical medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and a host of health-related subjects, which are normally University College subjects. This comprehensive academic activity at our faculty is completely unique in a Norwegian context.

The merger between Tromsø University College and the University of Tromsø has given us this diversity. The faculty's location adjacent to the University Hospital of Northern Norway (UNN) offers particularly good conditions for interdisciplinary collaboration and point of care research and education.

Programmes of study

We educate doctors and psychologists (6 years) and have five-year programmes of study to educate pharmacists, dentists and graduate engineers in molecular biotechnology. Our three-year Bachelor programmes train nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, medical laboratory scientists, dental hygienists and radiographers. We also offer one-year programmes in medical subjects.

Our Master's programmes (1 ½ - 2 years) expand on Bachelor degrees or the equivalent. We also offer Doctoral degree programmes and organised research training. Read more about our programmes of study under "Programmes of study" in the left-hand menu.

Important areas of research

  • Basic research of high quality
  • Population surveys and biobanks
  • The major common diseases
  • Clinical research
  • Research in the intersection between medicine and marine biology (marine bioprospecting)
