Welcome to the Department of Archaeology and Social Anthropology
Please note that our English sites are under construction and many links will therefore lead to norwegian pages. More information about out department will come soon.
The department of Archaeology and Social Anthropology consists of three fields of study/research: Archaeology, Social Anthropology and Visual Cultural Studies.
All three fields have in common that they study societies and culture in both areas close to and far away from Tromsø. We do main parts of our research within studies of the Northern areas or indigenous peoples, but within a larger comparative relation. The relation between north and south, between local and global perspectives is therefore a natural part of our research. Studies of Sami relations, both contemporary and in former times, cover a central position at our department.
We offer study programmes at the Bachelor's, Master's and PhD-level.
