Doctoral Research Fellow in Art History

Job description

I'm a Doctoral Research Fellow in Art History within the Arctic Voices Project at UiT. Funded by the Research Council of Norway, my PhD project examines the visual and textual account of Indigenous people living in the Arctic in Frederick Whymper’s (1838-1901) works. His sketches, drawings, and watercolors are an outcome of his exploration travels in Alaska, British Columbia, and Siberia. In addition to the visual material, his book Travel and Adventure in the Territory of Alaska, formerly Russian America–now ceded to the United States–and in various other parts of the North Pacific (1868) is one of the main sources.
