Admission procedures for foreign applicants

Admissions to Bachelor's, Master's, Short programmes & Singular Courses

  • International degree applicants: This means all applicants with basic education from outside the Nordic countries and without advanced Norwegian language.

  • Foreign degree applicants residing in Norway: This category includes all foreign applicants residing in Norway on work visa, Study Permit, Protection (Refugee Status), Permanent Residency and Marriage/Family visa.

  • Nordic applicants: This includes applicants who are nationals of Danemark (including Faroe Islands and Greenland), Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

  • Norwegian applicants: This includes Norwegian citizens with basic education from outisde the Nordic countries.

  • Freemover/Single Courses applicants (bachelor's, master's and PhD levels): This includes applicants who intend to apply for Singular Courses taught in English or Norwegian.

  • Inbound exchange and Fulbright students: please read the information on the following website.

NB! Please read the information on this website carefully before applying for admissions to UiT. Applying to a wrong category or within an incorrect deadline will result in the rejection of your application.

How to apply

You are an International Applicant if you:

  1. Do NOT have  advanced Norwegian language proficiency (such as Bergentest or Norwegian for foreign students, Level 3) AND

  2. Do NOT have a basic education (upper & middle school) from a Nordic country (Norway, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, Sweden or Danemark).

HOW TO APPLY (INTERNATIONAL DEGREE ADMISSION)

IMPORTANT DATES

  • International Admissions (Programmes taught in English) start: 1 October
  • Deadline (all programmes):: 1 December
  • Deadline (Master of Fine Art):: 1 March

You can apply as a local student if you:

  1. Do HAVE  advanced Norwegian language proficiency (such as Bergentest or Norwegian for foreign students, Level 3) AND

  2. Do HAVE a basic education (upper & middle school) from a Nordic country (Norway, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, Sweden or Danemark).

NB! If you cannot document these requirements, you must apply as an international applicant although you live in Norway.

You can apply as a Nordic student if you:

  1. Do HAVE advanced Norwegian language ( see below ) proficiency (such as Bergentest or Norwegian for foreign students, Level 3) AND

  2. Do HAVE a basic education (upper & middle school) from a Nordic country (Norway, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, Sweden or Danemark).

  2. Proof of financial ability is not required for applicants with Norwegian citizenship

IMPORTANT DATES

  • International Admissions (Programmes taught in English) start: 1 October

  • Deadline (all programmes):: 1 December

  • Deadline (Master of Fine Art):: 1 March

EU and foreign applicants residing in Norway can apply for singular courses taught in English or Norwegian as long as they can satisfy Norwegian language proficiency in addition to the admission requirements for singular courses.
