INF-2201 Operating systems fundamentals, INF-2200 Computer architecture and organization

The course covers content-based operations such as indexing, retrieval, filtering, summarization, and information extraction and is applied to text, image, spoken audio and digital video. Particular importance will be allocated to the problem of testing and evaluation of information retrieval systems.

The aim of this course is to present the student with an overview and an understanding of how content-based information retrieval operations work.

English.

Lectures: 22 hours, Colloquium/seminars: 12 hours. Laboratory work is included in the course. The course will go over 2 semester starting in the autumn semester. The course is seminar based.

Spring exam. Oral exam (counting 60%). Project work, typically 5,000 word of research (counting 40%), during the course.

Course requirements: The coursework includes up to 3 written assignments graded "Pass" / "Fail". Oral presentation of the assignments and demonstration of a working system can be claimed.

Assessment scale for the overall grade: "Pass" / "Fail"

Re-sit examination:
There will not be given a re-sit exam for this course.

Postponed examination:
§§21 and 17. Given early in teaching free semester. A postponed exam in the part or parts which the candidate was prevented from at the last ordinary exam will be arranged.

New ordinary examination:
There will not be given a new ordinary examination for this course.
