  • Week 8. daily online lectures. One of the lecturer will be Professor Marcel Jaspars, University of Aberdeen, UK.
  • Tuesday February 17th there will be a course day (scientific/social/presentation technique) at UiT. During this day we will have lectures, be present at the opening of the Arctic Biodiscovery Centre at UiT. Demonstration at Marbio. One of the lectures during this day will be given by Bengt Erik Haug, University of Bergen.
  • Wednesday February 18th (before lunch) there will be a preconference workshop
  • Participation at the 3 day BIOPROSP Conference.
  • After the conference the students have to write a home assignment (exam).

Objectives of the course

Scope

The course aim is to teach the essential themes related to bioprospecting and different approaches to reveal bioactive components for health:

  • Biological resources and material used for bioprospecting
  • Different approaches and methods used
  • Cases
  • Demonstrations

The themes in the course will spend from biological resources in the ocean to characteristics of bioactive molecules with marine origin. Different methods used will be presented and discussed. It will be focus on processes of lead - development and use examples from secondary metabolites and peptides with bioactivity for health.

Language of instruction and examination

English.

Teaching methods

Intensive course:

  • lectures
  • participation on the Bioprosp 2015 Conference (Tromsø 18th - 20nd of February) and the pre-conference workshop (WS3).
Follow the application for the conference: BIOPROSP_2015.

Class Fronter will be used as a common platform.
