400 MHz NMR

Agilent (Varian) Mercury Plus 400 MHz NMR

This is the work horse of the Organic Chemistry group and is setup with as much automation as the hardware allows - tuning has to be made manually for best the performance. Acquisition of other nuclei than 1H and 13C requires manual tuning using tuning sticks. The 400 MHz NMR is an open access instrument with automated experiment queue setup using default parameters, allowing students to produce their own spectra after a 5 minute demonstration.

  • Hi/Low band room temperature broadband probe
  • Hi band: double tuned for 1H and 19F
  • Low band: tunable from 31P to 109Ag
  • Temperature range: -80 °C to 100 °C
  • Software: VnmrJ 2.2A and Chempack 6 (walkup)

600 MHz NMR

Agilent (Varian) Inova 600 MHz NMR

This is our high field NMR system, dedicated to projects that require high sensitivity, high resolution and/or advanced pulse programs. Example of typical tasks are structure elucidation of small amounts of natural products and characterization of interactions between inhibitors and enzymes.

  • HCN inverse cryoprobe, 2nd generation
  • Cooled preamplifier for the 1H channel
  • Temperature range: 0 °C to 50 °C
  • Software: VnmrJ 3.2A, Chempack 6, Biopack
  • Z-gradient and shaped pulses

The probe has three channels, 1H, 13C and 15N plus the option to decouple or use weak observe pulses on 2H through the lock channel.
