Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester. Applicants from outside the Nordic countries: 1 October for the spring semester and 15 April for the autumn semester.

Local admission, application code 9371 - - Master`s level singular course.
Admission requires a Bachelor`s degree (180 ECTS) in biology or equivalent qualification in biology.

Course content

The course focuses upon principles of ecotoxicology (contaminant transport, uptake by organisms, effects). Classes of pollutants of concern in arctic environments as well as other man made impacts (eutrophication, acidification etc). Pollutants are introduced along with their presence/effects in Arctic environments and in relation to climate change impacts and environmental management.

The objective of the course is to aquire a holistic undertsanding of ecotoxicology and specialized issues linked to Arctic ecosystems and environmental management.
Learn how to give a good oral presentation based on scientific literature, learn to search for relevant scientifc literature and read scientific publications critically.

  • Pollutant classes of concern, their transport and presence in the Arctic as well as effects on ecosystems
  • Environmental management in Arctic regions
  • Special topics: climate change, ocean acidification, eutrophication
  • Learn how to give a good oral presentation based on scientific literature
  • Learn to search for relevant scientifc literature,
  • Read scientific publications critically
  • Holistic approach to ecotoxicological science

Lectures and seminars

Assessment

Oral exam. A graded scale of five marks from A to E for pass and F for fail.
There will be a re-sit examination for students that did not pass the previous ordinary examination.
