Mona Johannessen

Professor

Job description

Mona Johannessen (PhD) is the leader of Research Group for Host-Microbe interaction (HMI), at Department of Medical Biology (IMB).

She is professor in molecular/cell biology and is especially interested in molecular aspects of host-microbe interplay, including bacterial adaptation to host which includes, but are not limited too, the expression and functions of factors involved in adhesion, invasion and immune evasion.

Johannessen is also highly involved in teaching at bachelor-, master- and PhD level courses, and in mentoring of post docs as well as supervision of PhD-, master- and bachelor students.

    Research interests

Johannessen main research interest is to identify, explore and get in-depth understanding of species such as Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium and/or Klebsiella pneumoniae with respect to...

    1) host-microbe interaction, especially bacterial factors involved in colonisation and infection.

    2) bacterial adaptation to various host niches and phenotypic heterogeneity

    3) bacterial membrane vesicles
