Abstract:
State Machine Replication is a general technique for making software fault tolerant, and Paxos is a popular protocol that implements State Machine Replication in a so-called asynchronous environment that admits crash failures. In this talk, I will explain why State Machine Replication in such an environment is difficult, and cover the basics of how state machines can agree upon the order of transitions and handling failures.
