autumn 2017 INF-3982 Capstone Project in Computer Science - 10 ECTS

Type of course

The course is reserved for students on the Computer Sciences - master 5-year (programme) and is not available as a singular or elective course to any other category of students. Exchange students may take the course in certain cases and as long as the admission requirements is satisfied.

Course content

One semester project for Computer Sciences - master 5-year (programme). The professional content will depend on the profile of the diploma papers, which is carried out in the last semester. Contact the Department of Computer Science during the 8th semester if a project paper is desired. The project has to be approved by the Department Council according to an application form along with a project description. Ordinary registration to the exam via Studentweb.

Objectives of the course

The student can apply and combine their achieved knowledge and skills at the level of an independent study or practical task in computer science. Moreover, the student can combine information from literature and any results of their own work to write a capstone project on a given topic in computer science.

Language of instruction and examination

The capstone project has to be written in Norwegian or English.

Teaching methods

Individual guidance and supervision according to agreement. According to capacity and requirement, projects are offered in the spring or fall semester. 1 semester duration.

Assessment

The exam includes submission of a project paper within a set deadline. The deadline is set in connection with the approval of the capstone project. Oral presentation of the capstone project can be claimed.

Grading scale: "Pass" / "Fail".

Re-sit exam:
Only if a capstone project is graded "Fail" may the project be resubmitted in revised form. A new deadline for submission will be stipulated. The new deadline for the project is 4 weeks from the point in time when the candidate was informed about the exam result. If the project receives a grade of "Fail" a second time the student can apply to the Department programme board for the assignment of a new project.

Postponed submission:
If a medical certificate is provided the student is given a postponed deadline for submitting the capstone project according to regulations in section 21 in Regulations for examinations at the UiT. By irresistible reasons for postponed submission, the student can apply for up to a 4 weeks extended limitation period. The Department programme board can approve or reject the application.

Non-submission of project:
If a project is not submitted within the stipulated time limit and any application for postponement has not been granted the candidate will be reported as not being present ("ikke møtt") at the examination. The student can then apply to the Department programme board for assignment of a new project.
