autumn 2017 ENG-3090 Special Course in English Linguistics - 10 ECTS

Type of course

This course is intended for students in the master`s degree programme in English language/linguistics and the master`s degree programme in eduacation year 8-13 (lektorutdanningen trinn 8-13). This course may not be taken as a single course.

Course content

The student engages in an independent study related to a subject within English linguistics, with a reading list that focuses on a particular theme.

Objectives of the course

The students have the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge

The student has:

  • gained greater academic subject knowledge and received a theoretical insight into a defined literary science/linguistic topic
  • gained a better subject foundation associated with work on a master's dissertation 

Skills:

Students will be able to/can: 

  • locate relevant academic literature on a defined literary science/linguistic topic
  • work independently on a literary science/linguistic question of enquiry


Language of instruction and examination

Language of examination English.

Teaching methods

The course is based on self study. It will be possible to follow some lectures of courses offered either on MA level or any of those which may be taught during the study period.

Assessment

The following coursework requirements must be completed and approved in order to take the final exam: 

Coursework requirements:The curriculum/reading list has to be decided upon in collaboration with a subject teacher within one month of the course start date. The deadline for sending the reading list (approved by the subject teacher) to the student adviser is 15 September for the autumn semester and 15 February for the spring semester.

Assessment method:

One week take home examination on a given topic, 2800-3500 Words.  All written work is based on the following standard: Times New Roman, 12, 1,5, 2,5 cm in Wiseflow.

Performance in the course will be assessed on an A-F grades scale. Grades are A-E for passed and F for failed. A re-sit examination is offered in the event of an F grade. The deadline to register for a re-sit examination is January 15th for the autumn semester and August 15th for the spring semester.
