Labba comes from a position as Head of the Language Management and Policy section at the Sámi Parliament. He has worked as a researcher at the Nordic Sami Institute and the University of Tromsø, where he has, among other things, led and participated in several major European research projects that have affected Sami and indigenous issues and challenges related to climate change. Niklas has also helped the Arctic Council and the UN bodies with issues concerning climate change in the Arctic.

"I look forward to working with research issues in a solid academic environment and working to accommodate the research needs of especially the Sami community," he says.

Niklas is from Soppero in Sweden, where his family is involved in cross-border reindeer husbandry with summer pastures in Dividalen in Indre-Troms. Labba’s professional background is particularly related to economics, reindeer husbandry and traditional knowledge.
