Marius Storvik


Job description

Marius Storvik is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, where his research interests include human rights, health law, welfare law, legal anthropology, and sociology of law. His work focuses on understanding and improving legal security and quality of life for vulnerable groups.

Throughout his career, Marius has developed a communication skill that is recognized both within and outside the university. He was recently awarded a prize for innovative communication, thanks largely to his ability to make legal topics accessible and engaging. His projects include the interactive theater piece "The Trial in Kardemomme by," animation films about coercion in adolescent psychiatry, museum work, and the podcast 'Juss & Jåss,' which he co-hosts with Professor Gunnar Eriksen.

Marius is currently involved in the research council project "The complexity of coercion in child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP)" and has published several works on coercion, in both child welfare and mental health care. He also teaches a range of subjects at UiT, from health law to ethics, and supervises master’s and Ph.D. students.

    Research interests

    Marius Storvik's main interest is in issues related to coercion, human rights and welfare law. This specifically includes people who are particularly vulnerable within healthcare services, including mental health, children, dementia patients and individuals with developmental disabilities. Outside of healthcare services, this includes areas such as child welfare law, social law and welfare law.

     

     

    He is particularly interested in investigating the legal systems role in how these areas interact and affect each other, and how the the legal system can contribute to improving the quality of life for people.  He is also interested in how the reparative function of compensation law can contribute to ensuring justice.

    Teaching

    At the Faculty of Law, Marius Storvik has lectured in Social Security Law, Sociology of Law, European Human Rights Law, and Ph.D. courses. He has also been a seminar teacher in Constitutional Law, Law of Succession, Tort Law, Legal History, Welfare Law, Methodology, and Sociology of Law.

    In addition to teaching at the Faculty of Law, Marius regularly instructs at other faculties at UiT. There, he teaches topics such as Health Law, Human Rights, Ethics, Child Welfare Law, and Research Communication.

    Marius is committed to conveying complex legal subjects in an understandable and engaging way. He has also supervised more than 30 master's theses and is currently a co-supervisor for two Ph.D. students.
