Opinion Peace Podcast - Launch Event

We at the Center for Peace Studies (CPS) are pleased to invite you to attend an official launch of our podcast Opinion Peace.

On this occasion, we will release three new episodes of the podcast, two of which are a part of “Debating Peace (Studies) Series”, and hold a panel discussion on challenges and benefits of enhancing social science impact and communication by bringing it online and broadening access to cutting-edge research.

Coffee and light refreshment will be served after the panel.

"The Economist" magazine pronounced the year 2016 as the year in which podcast came of age. In February 2019, with over 660 000 podcasts and well over 28 million of episodes on ITunes, podcast is a well-established and bustling part of the media landscape. Universities and institutes around the globe are using podcasts and other internet based communication channels to share and showcase their research, to engage with different audiences, to challenge the usual ways and forms of narrating science, to challenge themselves by being more creative and playful in the ways in which they approach and communicate their research.

What are the ways in which we at UiT communicate our research globally, nationally, and locally? How much do we utilize internet based communication channels? What are the challenges and benefits of moving science communication online?

These and other questions will be tackled by our panelists (listed in alphabetical order):

Lazic, Sladjana – postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Peace Studies (CPS) UiT, and the initiator of the Opinion Peace Podcast. Link for the bio: https://uit.no/om/enhet/ansatte/person?p_document_id=566175&p_dimension_id=88157

Prior to joining the UiT Library, Erik was a Journalist at NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Company) for eight years – he worked with news for radio, TV, web and social media. Erik holds a bachelor degree in Journalism, and a master’s degree in Philosophy. Link for the bio:

Nordström, Linnea - Team Leader for the University Library Communications Group. She is a science communicator with a background in biology and journalism and experience with communicating science through websites, social media, events, and photography. Before joining UiT she worked for the Arctic Council Secretariat, informing about issues pertinent to the Arctic environment and the people living there.

Olsen, Torjer Andreas – professor at the Centre for Sami Studies and a coordinator of the PhD course in public research communication. Link for the bio: https://en.uit.no/om/enhet/ansatte/person?p_document_id=43803&p_dimension_id=88182
