Admission requirements
PhD students or holders of a Norwegian master´s degree of five years or 3+ 2 years (or equivalent) in linguistics may be admitted. PhD students must upload a document from their university stating that there are registered PhD students. This group of applicants does not have to prove English proficiency and are exempt from semester fee.
Holders of a Master´s degree must upload a Master´s Diploma with Diploma Supplement / English translation of the diploma. Applicants from listed countries must document proficiency in English. To find out if this applies to you see the following list:

Objectives of the course
The students have the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
The student has:
· Knowledge of advanced results and generalizations from the most recent research in grammatical theory.
· Awareness of the current issues in the field and how they affect theory formation.
Skills
The student is able to / can:
· Ability to manipulate the newest and most advanced formal techniques being developed in morphological and syntactic analysis.
· Descriptive and analytical skills required in discovering novel empirical data and generalizations, with respect to the grammatical patterning of individual languages.
· Ability to propose and test new linguistic hypotheses and contribute to abstract theorizing in the fields of syntax and morphology, at an international level.
· Competence Solid foundation in the field of syntax.
Assessment
Active participation is obligatory.
A 3,000 - 3,750 word paper on a topic or problem to be solved, as assigned by the lecturer. The paper must be submitted for assessment six weeks after the completion of the course.
The examination is evaluated according to the pass/fail grading system. Students who have failed may register for a re-sit examination.
