Objectives of the course
After completing this cours the students have the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
The student has:
- correct English usage in different contexts and situations
- knowledge of different aspects related to business, internationalisation and intercultural communication
- knowledge of specific terminology and expressions in business fields
- knowledge of formal aspects of various types of written documents
Skills
The student is able to / can:
- know how to use English correctly in a variety of contexts
- be able to hold presentations in English
- be able to take part in discussions in English
- be able to present and discuss theoretical and professional topics that are dealt with in the course and be able to write about these topics
- be able to draw up and write certain types of formal documents in English
- have improved their English
- have acquired new vocabulary and terminology
Teaching methods
The teaching is distributed over the whole term, with certain teaching free periods when students work on their own. The lessons will consist of lectures, seminars, exercises, discussions, student presentations, group work/case studies.
Quality assurance: All courses undergo a halfway evaluation once in a 3-year period at the bachelor's level. The Programme Board determines which programme options will be evaluated per year, and which courses will be evaluated by the students and the teacher per year.
Assessment
The obligatory coursework requirements must be approved in order to take the final exam.
Coursework requirements:
Two written coursework requirements consisting of exercises focusing on grammar, language and vocabulary and the writing of formal documents and free texts. An individual oral presentation (5 -10 min). All written work is based on the following standard: Times New Roman, 12, 1,5, 2,5 cm.
Assessment method:
4-hour written school exam in WISEflow.
Performance in the course will be assessed on an A-F grades scale. Grades are A-E for passed and F for failed.
A re-sit examination is offered in the event of an F grade. The deadline to register (in the Studentweb) for a re-sit examination is January 15th for the autumn semester and August 15th for the spring semester.
