New book by JCLOS researcher Vito De Lucia

His book is a sustained study of the ecosystem approach, an legal and governance concept that aims at overcoming the fragmentation of traditional environmental legal approaches.

The concept promises to be a ‘new paradigm’ of environmental law and governance. In this last respect, the ecosystem approach is also often considered to offer an opportunity to move beyond the outdated anthropocentric framework underpinning much of international environmental law, thus helping re-think law in the Anthropocene. The book interrogates and problematizes the concept, to see whether it can actually deliver on its promise, and under what circumstances. Additionally to being a sustained study of the ecosystem approach, the book also articulates a framework for a critical environmental legal theory based on the genealogical method and on biopolitics.

The book is published by Routlegde.
