Art and Public Intervention: open meeting

The Music Conservatory and the Arctic University Museum invites you to attend insightful talks and discussion on Art and Interventions.

Artistic director Luba Kuzovnikova and composer Christopher Jette will give us examples of how art and public intervention can play a role in creating new narratives of the north.

Luba Kuzonikova is the director of “Pikene på Broen”, a collective of curators and producers based in the northeastern Norwegian town of Kirkenes. For the last 20 years, they have been realizing large- and small-scale cultural projects they call “border-crossing exercises”, which provide new perspectives on the north while initiating discussions on themes relevant to the Barents Region.

Christopher Jette is a curator of lovely sounds, creating work as a composer and new media artist. His creative work explores the artistic possibilities at the intersection of human performers/creators and technological tools. In addition to creating concert music, Jette explores Creative Placemaking through site-specific and interactive work as a core-four member of the Anchorage based Light Brigade.

After the presentations, there will be a panel discussion about art and public intervention forms in Northern parts of the world. Kristina Junttila (PhD-fellow and live art performer) and Geir Davidsen (project leader for the Art VAPO artistic research project (Musikkonservatoriet)) , will join in on the discussion.

Moderator for the seminar is Marit Anne Hauan, writer and folklorist at The Arctic University Museum.

The seminar is part of an artistic research project at the Conservatory Art VAPO – True North
