Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag av avhandlingen:

This study explored effects and user-experiences from a new, group-based physiotherapy intervention (GroupCoreDIST) compared to standard care in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Eighty persons participated; 40 performed 6-weeks of GroupCoreDIST and 40 conducted standard care.
Balance and walking deviations and feelings of such were detected, even in persons with low disability. Effects on balance and walking from GroupCoreDIST lasted up to six months. Qualitative interviews with 13 participants (interviewed twice) revealed that GroupCoreDIST was experienced as detailed and meaningful. The focus on individual prerequisites for balance, integrated with group elements provided perceptions of physical improvements, of control and ownership to their own body, and reflections of new opportunities for activity.
The study indicates that balance and walking deviations should be detected and detailed physiotherapy implemented in the follow-up of persons with MS even when disability is low.
