For the practicals in the end, please bring your own computer where you have installed R and RStudio in advance

Program

09.45 – 10.00

Coffee, tea & fruit

10.00 – 11.30

Part I – Introduction to Bayesian statistics

A comparison of Bayesian vs frequentist statistics; when do they agree and when do they differ? A short history of Bayesian statistics, with focus on practical use. What are the prior and posterior distributions?

11.30 – 12.30

Lunch

12.30 – 14.00

Part 2 – Bayesian workflow for data analysis

How would we do Bayesian analysis for typical problems in epidemiology? A step-by-step guide of the analysis process, with focus on data visualization for easy interpretation. Examples: models for longitudinal data, logistic regression, survival analysis.

14.00 – 14.15

Break

14.15 – 15.15

Part 3 – Bayesian analysis with R

Introduction Bayesian analysis with the R package “brms”. “brms” is a user-friendly package which hides away much of the advanced options, and hence lets new users easily get up to speed.

15.15 – 15.30

Break

15.30 – 17.00

Exercises with “brms” in R
