Rethinking vulnerability within a children’s rights approach

The Faculty of Law and the research group on Child Law, UiT - The Arctic University of Norway, are pleased to announce that they will organize and host the conference Rethinking vulnerability within a children’s rights approach.

Tromsø, Norway, June 13th  – 16th  2022.

The Child law research group at the Law Faculty, UiT - the Arctic University of Norway is working on a project on Children’s Right to Health. This is a four-year project funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The main objective of our project is to develop our understanding of children’s rights.  This conference focusing on the topic children and vulnerability theory is a part of the project.

In this conference we will rethink vulnerability theory within a children’s rights approach. The plan is to focus on vulnerability-theories and how these theories, can give an added value to the discussion on children’s right to health. We are studying the topic within a Nordic welfare-state perspective but would like to broaden our perspective to more international perspectives. We have decided to have a small conference, about 20-25 participants, so there could be time for presentations from all, as well as for discussions.

We are very pleased to inform you that Professor Martha Fineman has accepted to address the conference. She will not be able to travel to Tromsø, however she will record her presentation on beforehand and in addition perhaps attend by zoom. We are also pleased that Professor Ton Liefaard, Leiden, Professor Ursula Kilkelly, Cork, Professor Jonathan Herring, Oxford, Professor Laura Lundy, Belfast and Professor Daniel Stoecklin, Geneva all have accepted the invitation to give keynote speeches.

Venue / Conference hotel

The conference will take place in Tromsø at Scandic Ishavshotell, in the city center.

The organizer has made reservations for all the invited participants at this hotel.

If you would like to extend your visit for a few days longer, please make your private reservation. There are several other hotels in Tromsø, however June is usually a busy time at the hotels.
