The KG Jebsen Centre for the Law of the Sea (JCLOS) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, invites candidates to the urban resarch city of Tromsø; uniquely located at “the top of the world”; surrounded by some of Europe's last pristine wild nature – and a host for world leading marine and maritime research communities.
Why choose UiT?
«UiT the Arctic University of Norway and other research institutions located in Tromsø, makes Tromsø a host for leading marine and maritime research communities. Here you also find the K.G.Jebsen Centre for the Law of the Sea (JCLOS), one of the largest concentrations of law of the sea researchers. At JCLOS, a Marie Curie fellow will be a member of a young, creative and cooperative research group”, says professor Tore Henriksen, one of the world’s leading researchers in law of the sea, and leader of the K.G.Jebsen Centre for the Law of the Sea at UiT in Tromsø.
Professor Tore Henriksen will be the supervisor of the selected candidate to write a proposal for a 24-months MSCA-IF at UiT with research on international law and maritime security law
Professor Ingvild Jakobsen is another leading researcher from JCLOS. She will be the supervisor of the selected candidate to write a proposal for a 24-months MSCA_IF at UiT with research on international law and the marine areas beyond national jurisdiction, and the use of area based management tools (ABMTs) including marine protected areas (MPAs) as tools for conservation and sustainable use of the marine biodiversity.
Prestigious – with a “family atmosphere”
Claudia Cinelli was a Marie Curie fellow at JCLOS in 2015 -2017. Here is what she says about choosing JCLOS at UiT in Tromsø:
“The host institution must have the highest expertise on the topic and be prestigious – which the JCLOS definitely is. Also, professor Tore Henriksen’s CV was relevant: he is “high profile” in the field”, says Cinelli.
As much as the academic quality at the Faculty of Law, she likes life in Tromsø.
“I like the family atmosphere; it is a small community, and everybody is kind, you never feel alone”, says Cinelli.
About the northern climate, Cinelli says: “It’ s very different from home, but I like that: the darkness, the mountains, the landscape… I can learn a lot from the close relationship with nature that you have here”.
