Community medicine involves studies of the connection between people's health and the wider community. In Tromsø, the research and teaching both reflect our geographic and cultural affiliation in the Arctic region. In addition, there is also particular focus on rural medicine and on a broad epidemiological research activity.
The researchers at the department take active part in global research collaboration, and are leaders of and partners in national and international research projects funded by the EU, the Norwegian Research Council and other organizations. Additionally, the ISM operate the education of future scientists through the research school EPINOR (National research school in population based epidemiology).
