Email at UiT

All UiT employees and students have their own personal email accounts. This email account is the primary channel used by UiT to communicate with its affiliates. As such, employees and students are expected to attend their inboxes.

How do I access my email account?

Email accounts are created as part of your IT-user account. To access your email, you will need the username and password of this account.

Frequently (and infrequently) asked questions

Manual settings for unsupported email clients

I use an email client not listed above. How do I configure this to work with UiT's email servers?

ITA only provides support for the listed clients, but if you're using a different client, you may try the following:

  • Check to see whether the client has Exchange support. If it does, you should be able to use one of the guides above.
  • If it does not support Exchange, try setting it up to use IMAP protocols as described under "Email - General settings".

SPAM and PHISHING

  1. Why do I receive junk mail, and what is ITA doing to counter this?
  2. Why is non-junkmail sorted into my junkmail folder? What can be done about this?

  1. ITA actively combats junkmail. You can read more about our efforts here: E-post - Spam and Phishing
  2. Multiple reasons may account for this. (More about this soon).

Email forwarding

  1. How do I manage email forwarding?
ITA does not recommend email forwarding, as this limits your options, and prevents us from storing email backups.
  1. You may manage this yourself here: Email Forwarding

Email display name

  1. How do I change the display name of my email account?

The display name is the name displayed to recipients, in addition to your email address.

  1. You may freely change the display name shown on emails sent from your address. This is done by editing your info card. Please click this link for a guide.
