Hostname (Computer name) - Windows 10

Hostnames (Computer names) are unique to each computer. When you submit a ticket to Orakelet/Dept. of IT, please include the hostname of the computer in question where relevant. Read on for more information on how to find your computer's hostname.

Finding your hostname on your desktop background

Computers owned by the University should display the hostname in a separate box on your desktop background.

Finding your hostname using the start menu

If you cannot find the black box to the top right as shown in the image above, you can also find your hostname using the start menu

1. Right-click the start button
2. Press the "System"-button. A new window will now appear.

You will now be presented with a screen showing the hostname about halfway down the page. Please specify this if you are asked what your computer's 'Host name' is.

Find the computer name when you are unable to log in to the computer

You can find the computer name by typing .\ in the username Box. The computer name will appear under the password Box.
