Mathematical modelling for female health
Risk for cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs), including heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF),
disproportionately affect post-menopausal women due to hormonal changes that disrupt metabolic and
cardiovascular homeostasis. CMDs are multifactorial diseases with complex physiological changes. The
underlying interplay between signal transduction and metabolism within and between tissues is still not well
understood. Together with collaboration partners we aim to develop a comprehensive multi-scale multi-tissue multi-species framework resembling the molecular, cellular, and systemic mechanisms driving CMDs, with a focus on sex-hormone affected pathways. By integrating experimental data from advanced animal models, computational modeling,
and multi-omics analysis, we aim to improve translatability of preclinical models, diagnosis and treatment of
HFpEF in post-menopausal women.
