Welcome to Svalbard

Do you want to literally study at the top of our planet? Then you are welcome to Svalbard and Longearbyen, the northernmost town in the world.

Longyearbyen is located 78ºN and is a modern, compact community, and is the centre of Norwegian presence in Svalbard. The town has a well-developed infrastructure including kindergartens, a public school, library, museum, church, hospital, dental service, Post Office, bank, shops, cafés and restaurants, a sports hall with a swimming pool and a cinema.

Longyearbyen is a popular place to study. In 2018, 772 students from 43 different countries took one or more courses at the University Center at Svalbard (UNIS). Of these, half were international students.
