Learn how to manage your research data according to best practice!

In their meeting on March 9 2017, the University Board at UiT adopted Principles and guidelines for research data management at UiT, effective as of September 1 the same year. The purpose of these is to "clarify responsibility and provide guidance on how the institution and its employees shall manage, share and archive research data in line with the institution's administrative, financial, and ethical guidelines." Read more about the policy here (in Norwegian only).

Research data are an essential part of most research projects, and should be managed according to best practice in the whole project period. Before you start a project, you should investigate which data already exist in the field. When collecting data, you should follow the standards that are established for similar data. Further, you should structure your data in a suitable way, and have a plan for how the data will be managed. If the data can be shared, they should be uploaded to an appropriate archive.

This fall, the University Library offers a variety of courses on research data. Courses on Level 1 provide an introduction to sharing of research data and further instruct how to use UiTs institutional archive, UiT Open Research Data. Participants at Level 2 courses are expected to have some knowledge of managing research data. The courses are thematically inter-related, but participants are free to sign up for only those courses you are interested in. Each course has a separate sign-up.

All courses are offered in Norwegian and in English. Note that there is a separate course on sensitive data (in Norwegian only).
