Popular science workshop

Science dissemination workshop

Centre for Arctic and Global Health and the Norwegian Research School of Global Health arranges a two-day workshop (in English) about science dissemination for PhD students.

The workshop will be led by Eivind Lauritsen and Eldrid Borgan from forskning.no and Audun Farbrot from BI Norwegian Business School. Forskning.no is the leading online research newspaper in Norway and the most important channel for publishing popular science and science news. Audun Farbrot has many years of experience from lecturing, blogging and writing books (check out his books here and here) about public dissemination.

The trio will launch you through two days filled with hints and tips about public dissemination and will offer supervision and advice after the workshop in order for all participants to reach the ultimate goal: publication of a popular science article.
Why should you use two days to enhance your science dissemination skills? Here are some reasons:

  • Public-oriented dissemination is increasingly emphasized in research, something which for instance is reflected in calls for proposals emphasizing the importance of popular dissemination
  • Results from publicly funded research should be available in an accessible manner to all parts of the population
  • Dissemination in different channels to various target groups brings attention to both the researchers and the institutions they represent.
  • Engaging in popular science and being active in social media may enhance your research network.
  • You will learn how to draw the essence out of your research, which is important for both scientific articles and popular science articles.
