All publications at SAP are available Open Access. SAP has different publication types in its portfolio. SAP currently publishes nine journals, of which seven are peer-reviewed journals approved at level 1 in the funding model. There is also a conference related series (Septentrio Conference Series) and series associated with specific institutions (Samisk Senters Skriftserie, Ravnetrykk). Septentrio Educational and Septentrio Reports are series that contain various teaching materials and reports respectively, and both are published by UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
The IT tool used for publishing is Open Journal Systems (OJS) from the Public Knowledge Project. The tool has powerful features to support the editorial processes from the submission of manuscripts through to publication. In addition, OJS satisfies all the technical requirements for efficient distribution within an Open Access framework, such as OAI-PMH, DOIs and metadata transmission in DOAJ.
In order to reduce the total cost for the university, we operate OJS in a joint installation. This enables the individual editorial departments to forget about the technical operation and instead concentrate on the academic content.
Compared with distribution of printed journals, electronic distribution within the scope of an Open Access framework is more efficient, virtually free and provides a far wider geographic spread.
