EndNote from home

The most important thing is to make sure that the Endnote Library is correctly saved on your computer:

  • You should save your EndNote library locally on your computer. (C: disk)
  • Never save the EndNote Library in any cloud services like OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, iCloud. This will corrupt your library over time.

  • We do not recommend saving the EndNote library in the H: disk (personal UiT network drive) and connecting via VPN as this will also corrupt the library over time. This is probably one reason for EndNote and Word working slowly together.

If you are uncertain where you've saved your EndNote-library, or know that it is saved on the H: disk, do the following instructions to move and save your EndNote-library correctly.

NB! Backup your EndNote Library to ensure you do not lose your work. Guidance on backing up your library: https://uit.no/ub/skrive/art?p_document_id=601141

How to move your EndNote Library from H: Disk to C: Disk – not using sync

Where have I saved my library?

  1. Open the EndNote-library. Go to Edit →Preferences →Libraries
  2. Choose Open the specified libraries in the menu option when EndNote starts. Click Add Open Libraries

  3. In the Libraries window you will see the file path to your library, and you can see where it has been saved (C: or H:)

  4. If your EN-library is saved at C:  → click OK to close the window. Your End-Note library is saved correctly and should operate correctly while working from home.

If your EndNote-library is saved on the H: disk we recommend moving it to the C: disk. The next steps depend on whether you are using sync or not.

Are you syncing your library?

  1. Open the EndNote-library. Go to Edit →Preferences →Sync
  2. You are syncing if there is information filled out in the EndNote Account Credentials, and the Sync Automatically box is checked. If there is no information on the form, you’re not syncing your EndNote library

  3. Click OK to close the box
