Founded in 1973, our Department has a long-standing tradition for epidemiological investigations of prevalence of and risk factors for common public health challenges, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes. Today, our research efforts within public health have broadened to include economic aspects of healthcare, research on erroneous medical treatment and health policy, biomarker research and much more.

Our research activity is to a large extent based om our unique population studies: the Tromsø Study, the Norwegian Women and Cancer Study, the SAMINOR Study, and the Fit Futures Study. These studies provide valuable insights that guide our research and contribute to the broader understanding of public health dynamics.
