EUTRO is a research administrative tool that provides a complete overview of a study's total research material, including biological material, health data, and project information..
IT solution EUTRO is used in large regional, national, and international studies. The system is used, among other places, at the Institute of Community Medicine, where the Tromsø Study, with its seven population surveys, has archived its research data in EUTRO.
One of the great strengths of the IT solution is that all data is collected in one database. This provides full potential for integration across the various modules.
EUTRO has been developed at UiT The Arctic University of Norway since 2004. The system ensures compliance with the Health Research Act and GDPR requirements for security, handling, and administration of sensitive research data and biological material.
The system also includes a separate module for handling requests for access into own data usage from research participants.
The main modules in EUTRO are closely integrated with each other and have various integrations with other systems. Access control ensures that nobody has access to more than what they are defined to have. All data security is taken care of according to the requirements from the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, and privacy is well maintained in the system.
The Project Module
The Project Module in EUTRO is designed to store and manage information about the various research projects, serving as a management tool that provides a comprehensive overview of an institution's overall research activities.
Simple notifications regarding when project events are approaching their notification date also enable the institution to monitor ongoing activities.
The Dataset Module
The Dataset module in EUTRO is used to store, manage, and distribute research data, providing the capability to present available information about research data to a web-based presentation tool.
The Biobank module
EUTRO contains a complete tracking system with all the functionality required to manage biobanks and the biological samples they contain. The solution is entirely dynamic, with its own definitions of the terms used. This allows all biobanks to utilize EUTRO's tracking system for biological samples.
Research Participant Access
EUTRO contains functionality required to fulfill a participant's right to insight into how their data and materials are used. We track all data usage and keep track of participant consents in a separate module, allowing research managers to respond to participant access requests in a simple and clear manner.
Migration of the EUTRO software to TSD
TSD is a secure platform provided by the University of Oslo in Norway, designed to handle and store sensitive data in compliance with Norwegian privacy regulations. This platform is often used by researchers and institutions that need to process and analyze sensitive information in a secure environment.
Moving EUTRO to TSD has involved transferring all the data, functionalities, and processes of the EUTRO software into the TSD infrastructure to enhance data security and compliance with data protection laws.
Metadata database for national health registries
We have now launched the metadata database for key health registries in Norway. The launch marks the beginning of a simpler everyday life for many researchers.
Initially, variables from two key health registries will be available in the metadata database: the Norwegian Cause of Death Registry and the somatic part of the Norwegian Patient Registry.
What can old church records tell us about public health?
Consider, we only need to go back to the 1960s, when population registration was done by enthusiasts like historian Sølvi Sogner, who created handwritten family cards for Rendalen parish in Østerdalen.
The opening of our 3 new core facilities at the Faculty of Health Sciences
On January 1st, 2017, EUTRO, Biobank, and the Tromsø Study were established as new core facilities at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Tove Karoline Knutsen from Arbeiderpartiets Health and Care Committee had the honor of cutting the ribbon in front and declaring the new core facilities open.
