A focus on gender
As the Polar Regions are moving to the Centre of global consciousness, there are a growing interest in the history of the Arctic and Antarctic. A knowledge-based understanding of the history and nature of the Polar Regions is necessary in order to understand their potential and vulnerability. Moreover, there has been little emphasis on gender in these research fields. In addition to studies on gender, the research focus on polar history within Tromsø Museum holds an emphasis on museology, materiality, tourism and hunting (Lena Aarekol, Marit Anne Hauan and Kathrine Totland).
