Under the lights

Permanent exhibition

Learn more about the fascinating world of Northern Lights research.

Dancing, beautiful, frightening, magical. There are many words that can describe the Northern Lights, but what forces allow us to experience this striking natural phenomenon?

For endless times, humans have looked up at the sky and wondered, been scared or fascinated. But while previous generations understood the Northern Lights through mythology and folklore, more systematic and scientific approaches have gradually been developed. Today, the most advanced technology is used to uncover the secrets of this beautiful light phenomenon.

Solar winds and plasma clouds. Space weather has tremendous power that can affect navigation systems, power supply, and other infrastructure. The work of Northern Lights researchers, through various measurements, simulations, and modeling, is used to understand and monitor the processes in space. This work and the impressive technology used as part of it are some of the things we will become more familiar with on our journey under the lights.
