RÁVDNJI – THE STRONG CURRENT

Permanent exhibition

On Sámi heritage in the Tromsø area.

The rich Sami heritage in Tromsø is unknown to many. Most of the traces of Sami activity in the past were lost due to Norwegianization and the closing of borders. The story of how Samis were forced to abandon summer pastures in Tromsø is a witness to historical injustice. Today, both the pastures and the physical heritage are threatened by housing development and wind power plants. This exhibition includes the Coastal Sami culture, the cultural connection beyween coast and inland, heritage, everyday life and good neighborhood.
