Xperimentarium
Temporary exhibitionA playful exhibition rooted in our collections
No stories are ever complete. There is always an X—an unknown, a perspective that has not yet been conveyed. This same is true of this exhibition. It is our Xperimenatrium — a living space where we explore new narratives, new ways of communicating, and continuously update our work with new research. The exhibition you visit today may therefore look different tomorrow.
At the center of these narratives are our collections — the objects we have gathered over 150 years. They are the heart of the museum and the foundation for nearly all the work carried out here, whether it is research, conservation, education, or public engagement. The collections consist of more than two million objects and span many fields within nature and culture, functioning as a physical archive of the North.
By getting to know our collections, you also get to know us. And we are curious about you as well: which object tells your story of the North?
In the work on this exhibition, we have drawn inspiration from The Method of Things (Tingenes metode), developed by the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology (NTM), the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo (KHM), and Oslo Museum (OM).
