Plan your visit to The Arctic University Museum of Norway

The museums adress is Lars Thøringsveg 10. It is located on the south of Tromso island, about 2.5 km from the city centre.

Visit us by bus

Use the journey planner Svipper to find the best route (look for Tromsø Museum in the system).

Bus no. 40 goes from the city centre and stops closest to the museum — the stop is called Tromsø Museum. Bus nr. 33 goes to the stop Telegrafbukta (about 300 m from the museum).

Please note that bus tickets cannot be purchased at the museum.

Visit us by car

Guest parking is available to the right of the museum. 

The parking area includes two accessible spaces, and there’s a smooth, step-free surface all the way to the entrance.

Parking fees and hours are shown on site — you can pay via mobile app (easypark) or at the ticket machine (across the street, about 50 m away) using cash or card.

You can also park at Telegrafbukta and follow the pedestrian and cycle path from Kvaløyvegen (about 300 m).

If you have any questions, just ask our friendly staff at the reception!

Visit us walking, biking or skiing

If you have the chance, we highly recommend enjoying the scenery surrounding the museum. There are several paths and a light trail close by, and the popular city beach Telegrafbukta is only 300 m away.

If you come by bike, there is a bicycle rack by the main entrance.

If you arrive on skis, you can store your skis in the cloakroom during your visit.

The Arctic University Museum of Norway is open all days during the year, except for:

December 25th

These days the museum, including the cafe and the museum shop, is closed.

Café Rotunden

At Café Rotunden, you can help yourself to coffee, tea, soft drinks, and a variety of snacks Monday to Saturday during the museum’s opening hours.

On Sundays, the café is open with staff from 12 PM to 3.30 PM – serving delicious freshly baked waffles and more.

The Museum shop

Looking for a special gift? We have a wide selection of unique gift items and books that you can only find here. You’re welcome to visit the shop without purchasing a ticket to the rest of the museum.

The museum shop is open during the museum’s opening hours.

A guided tour of our northern lights exhibion "Under the Lights". Delve into both the captivating myths and the enlightening facts surrounding the Northern Lights, while also gaining insight into Aurora research.

"Sami Culture - Past and Present"

The museum displays comprehensive exhibitions about the Sami people. This tour invites you to explore the history of the Sami nation, together with one of our skilled guides.
