Plan your visit to The Polar Museum

Visiting on foot:

The Polar Museum is located at the northern end of downtown Tromsø, within easy walking distance from most of the city’s hotels and places to stay. 

Visiting by car:

The Polar Museum does not have its own car park. However, the Tromsø City Council has a car park near the entrance to the museum. Museum visitors may park here for a fee, which may be paid by card, cash or by downloading the Easypark app. 

Visiting by bus:

Given its central location, you can catch many different buses to reach the Polar Museum. You can use this travel planner to check which bus number and departure time to take to get to the museum.  

If you visit the city’s tourist information office at Visit Tromsø, you can buy the Tromsø Pass. The provides unlimited bus travel during the specified period as well as admission to a range of attractions in Tromsø, including both our museums. 

Unfortunately, we don’t sell bus tickets at the museum. However, you can buy bus tickets at several kiosks in Tromsø, the ticket counter at the Tromsø Passenger Terminal or via the “Troms Billett” app. Another option is to buy an electronic travel card (Tromskortet).

Every day: 10.00 - 18.00

Opening Hours January 1st - May 31st:

Every day: 10.00 - 18.00

Opening Hours June 1st - August 15th:

Every day: 10.00 - 18.00

Please note that the museum is closed on 1 May and 17 May.

Join us for a tour through polar history, focusing on winter trapping, seal hunting and polar expeditions Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM (14:00) during summer season. Book your ticket here.

In addition, free admission* is offered to:

• Companions (with a valid companion card)
• Holders of the Opplevelseskortet and one accompanying adult
• Individuals who work with informing visitors and tourists about activities and attractions in Tromsø (valid identification required)

 *free admission when standard admission applies. Some guided tours and events may require an additional ticket.
