UiT has not spoken out in favor of banning Russian employees and students

On Wednesday, Nordlys had a news article with the headline «UiT has almost 100 Russian students. This week, the decision will be made whether they will be banned: – There will be changes ». The management at UiT would like to emphasize that UiT has not spoken out in favor of excluding Russian employees and students.

About UiT

As we have experienced that the news article in Nordlys has contributed to creating increased fear and unrest among our Russian employees and students, the management at UiT wishes to emphasize the following:

UiT has no plans to exclude any employees or students. UiT has also not received signals that the Norwegian authorities have such plans. On Wednesday, Nordlys removed the original story and published a new article where this is specified: UiT has 72 projects with Russian partners – now these are in danger (+article, only in Norwegian).

UiT does not know which restrictions will be placed on cooperation with Russia in the university and research sector, or what the EU will do with Russian participation in its programs. This will probably be clarified in the next few days.

The university management would like to assure that no matter what decisions come from the Norwegian authorities and the EU, we will work to take care of all affected employees and students.
