Harpal Singh
Job description
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Computational Engineering. My primary research focus is structural health monitoring of infrastructure, including bridges, dams, heritage buildings, high‑rise and residential structures, railway infrastructure, industrial assets and other critical infrastructure. I work on predictive maintenance, emergency preparedness and climate adaptation of infrastructure, with an emphasis on data‑driven methods.
Together with my PhD students and international partners, I also conduct research in applied mathematics with applications to infrastructure monitoring, renewable energy, signal processing, artificial intelligence and sustainability.
I am co‑founder and co‑organiser of the Midnight Sun Summit in Mathematics and Engineering, a new international conference designed to place Northern Norway and UiT on the world map under the theme “Building bridges between theory and practice.”
I am responsible for two PhD courses, A Basic Course in Applied Mathematics and Principles of Mathematical Analysis, and maintain active research and industrial collaborations with institutions in Sweden, India, Georgia, Italy, Canada, the USA, Japan, Vietnam, Kazakhstan and Portugal.
