Riana Steen is an Associate Professor specializing in organizational resilience, business continuity, crisis management, and risk governance. She works with system modelling approaches, including the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) and the Viable System Model (VSM). Her focus areas include resilience engineering, organizational adaptation, risk governance, and the management of complex socio-technical systems. Her research examines how organizations prepare for, respond to, and learn from disruptions, with the aim of strengthening preparedness, adaptive capacity, and continuity in uncertain and dynamic environments. Job description

Responsibilities:

Project Manager, Arctic Resilience Hackathon (ARCRES). UiT (2026-2028)
Research and publications: Focus on organizational resilience, crisis management, business continuity, and risk management in complex systems.
Course development and coordination: Designs, leads, and coordinates educational programs and courses across various disciplines, including safety and security management.
Teaching and supervision: Teaches and supervises students at bachelor’s and master’s levels.
Project management and grant work: Develops and contributes to research proposals for national and international projects (e.g., EU Horizon and RCN).
Knowledge transfer: Presents research findings at international and national conferences (e.g., Neon) and through interdisciplinary collaboration with industry and the public sector.
Method development: Advances analytical tools, including the Viable System Model (VSM) and the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM), to strengthen safety, governance capacity, and operational dependencies in critical infrastructure.
