Somil Thakur
Job description
Dr. Somil Thakur is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Building, Energy and Material Technology at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. His work focuses on water and wastewater treatment, bio-electrochemical systems, and bioenergy, with a special interest in microbial fuel cells and constructed wetland MFCs.
At UiT he contributes primarily to the BRIDGE (Collaboration in Microbial Fuel Cell Research and Innovation Driven Graduate Education) project related activities, and collaborates across engineering and environmental science. He is also a part of ENFORCE (Energy & Resource Recovery from Wastewater for Circular Economy) and PEERS (Partners in Energy & Environment Engineering Education and Research for Sustainable Development).
Research interests:
- Water and wastewater treatment systems
- Bioenergy production
- Bio-electrochemical systems
- Microbial fuel cells (MFCs)
- Electrokinetic Remediation
- Resource Recovery
- Renewable energy
Teaching and Mentoring
Somil Thakur has been actively engaged in teaching and mentoring across different stages of his academic career. His responsibilities have included delivering lectures and laboratory sessions in areas such as water and wastewater engineering, environmental engineering, and fluid mechanics. He has supervised several student projects focused on innovative environmental technologies.
At UiT, he is currently responsible for teaching the BYG-3613 Centralized wastewater treatment system, while also contributing to student guidance, and project-based learning.
